Media Statement - 2nd July 2009

The Minister for Youth, Kate Ellis is pleased to announce the winners of the 2009 National Youth Week competitions.

National Youth Week is the nation's biggest annual youth event, designed to celebrate all young people aged 12 - 25, their achievements, skills, talents and the contribution they make to their communities.

Over 4,000 people entered the National Talent and Win Free Stuff competitions, which highlights the talent and creativity of young people across Australia.

Ms Ellis said she was impressed by the quality and originality of the entries.
"Congratulations to all the entrants from across the country, who engaged in an extremely tough selection process," Ms Ellis said.

"Yet again, these competitions have shown the flair for creative endeavours young Australians have, and I thank the industry representatives, sponsors and the voting public for supporting young talent," Ms Ellis said.

The National Talent Competition winners were chosen in five categories - RockIT (music), WriteIT (short stories), ShootIT (film), DesignIT (graphic design) and SnapIT (photography). The Win Free Stuff competition involved a number of 25-words-or-less questions.
