Biography

Sharon Bird lives at Mangerton near Wollongong. She was elected to the federal parliament in 2004 and re-elected in 2007.

She is a former High School and TAFE teacher as well as a senior project officer with the NSW Department of Juvenile Justice. Sharon worked at Wollongong TAFE for six years teaching local students and continues to take an active interest in education and youth issues in the Parliament.

Sharon's family has lived in the Illawarra for four generations where she is raising her family. Sharon works closely with local community groups, unions and businesses to ensure the area she represents gets the funding for infrastructure and services that are needed.
