Canberra ACT 2600
Electorate Office
Nailsworth SA 5083
Kate grew up in a small town along the Murray River in rural South Australia before moving to attend high school in Adelaide's inner south-western suburbs.
She studied International Relations at Flinders University, where she was an active representative and President of the Students Association.
Kate entered the full-time workforce as a research officer for State and then Federal parliamentarians. She worked as an advisor for South Australian Minister the Hon Rory McEwen MP, advising on trade related issues, and subsequently an advisor to the Deputy Premier the Hon Kevin Foley MP.
On October 9 2004, Kate made history as the youngest woman ever elected to the Australian House of Representatives, after winning the seat of Adelaide.
Following the Australian Labor Party election victory in November 2007 Kate was elevated to the Rudd Government ministry as the Minister for Youth and Sport.
Kate understands the power of sport to help build stronger communities and to address health problems like obesity, diabetes and other preventable diseases.
She is also determined to give young people a stronger voice in government by listening and responding to their needs through the new Australian Youth Forum.
